How the match score works
The check scores your résumé against one specific posting: it reads the requirements out of the job description, then looks for evidence of each one in your résumé. You get a match score, a short read on the overall fit, and the highest-value changes to make.
It reads the posting, not a template
The check pulls the actual requirements and named skills out of the job description you paste. There is no generic “good résumé” rubric underneath — the same résumé scores differently against two different jobs, because it should.
It compares evidence, not adjectives
Each requirement is matched against what your résumé actually shows. Calling yourself a “detail-oriented self-starter” matches nothing. Naming the tool you used and the result you got matches a requirement.
It shows you what is missing
The gaps are the useful half. A requirement the posting cares about and your résumé never mentions is either something to surface (you have it, you buried it) or something to be honest with yourself about.
It never invents experience
Suggestions only reorder and rephrase what is already in your résumé. If a fix isn’t something you could defend out loud in an interview, it doesn’t get suggested. That rule is the whole product.
What your score actually means
A low score isn’t a verdict on you
It usually means the résumé is written for a different job than the one you pasted. The same person, applying to a role that actually fits their evidence, scores higher without changing a single fact.
A high score isn’t a promise
Nothing can promise you an interview — anyone selling that is overselling. A strong match means the person reading it can see the fit in the first ten seconds instead of hunting for it.
The middle is where the work is
Most résumés land mid-range against a job they’re genuinely qualified for. That gap is almost never missing experience. It’s experience that’s on the page in the wrong order, or described in words the posting never uses.
What this check will not do
It will not tell you that you are a 94% match and imply the interview is coming. It will not simulate a specific company’s screening software, because no honest tool can — every employer configures theirs differently. And it will not suggest adding a skill you don’t have to get the number up. A résumé that wins the filter and loses the interview hasn’t solved anything; it has just moved the rejection one round later.
